Northwoods GP - Rules
The following are the rules for the Northwoods GP Series. These are to be followed exact and are set in place for all of our riders safety.
Track Safety Requirements
Safety Wiring: Oil fill and drain plugs, oil filter, hoses carrying fuel, oil, or water, and radiator caps; must be safety wired. If it’s questionable, drill and wire it! Safety is the primary concern.
Catch Bottles: Carb vent and gas tank overflow lines, crankcase vents, any radiator overflow lines; must be routed to a catch bottle. (Bottle: something that will retain these fluids as much as possible in the event of a crash, or in racing situations… i.e.- with a cap!) With liquid cooled machines please have a big enough bottle to allow for radiator overflow. Water only, or “water wetter” MUST be used in place of ethyl glycol (antifreeze) as a coolant in liquid cooled bikes. DO NOT show up with four lines routed to a pill bottle!!
Sliders: Foot pegs and bar end sliders made from plasict material that will not damage the race surface MUST be in place. THIS IS A TRACK REQUIREMENT!
General: Operational kill switch must be in place, self closing throttle, front and rear brakes operational (rar hand brake okay), no kickstands. Any existing head or or tail lights must be fully taped over or removed. Brarke and clutch reservoires must be taped over or zip tied/safely wiried, and no mirrors or turn signals. Be smart, if it looks dangerous or it could create a dangerous situation then take care of it. In facing, if it can happen, eventually, it will happen. Tech may call you on ANY item on your bike that looks questionable. This is a friendly series and almost anyone in the pit area that can help you out, probably will.
Rider Safety Requirements
Helmet: DOT, Shell, or BSI approved full face helmets are approved only. Motortscross style helmets are okay too, but must be used with a pair of goggles.
Gloves: Full fingered, leather with a securing device (velcro strap, button, buckle, etc) and preferably with a gauntlet.
Suit: Full leather or Kevlar type roadracing suits are preferred. If of the two piece variety, there must be a zipped connection between the top and bottom. IF you chose to ride with the "supermoto" setup and go with the jersey and motocross pants; well, good luck to your...I hope you don't fall on the pavement!!
Boots: Roadracing or motocross variety. Regluar leather boots are okay, but the laces must be taped up and boots must be at least 1 inhc over the ankle. NO toes hanging out!
Racing Rules
Rough Riding: Rough riding is not tolerated at Northwoods GP events. Any rider found guilty of rough riding will be disqualified from further participation in the event and will forfeit all entry fees. The rider will also lose any points accumulated during this event. The Northwoods GP Series reserves the right to ban any rider from any further participation at any event if repeated infractions occur. The first offense for engaging in rough riding tactics during a race, the Flagman warns the rider with a rolled-up black flag. If the rider fails to obey the Flagman, or officials observe a second infraction, the rider is disqualified from further participation in the event. OR if an injury or crash happens from the first infraction, the rider CAN be disqualified from the event.
There are two additional ways for a rider to be accused of rough riding. Either another Race Official directly observes the questionable riding and recommends it, or two or more riders protest the practice or race on the grounds of rough or dangerous riding. Riders judged guilty of rough riding following protests are disqualified from that race class for the event. This is a fun yet intensely competitive sport. Have fun, and be competitive….. ride rough…. and have fun and be competitive elsewhere.
Flags
Green: GO!
Yellow: (Standing) A hazardous situation is on or near the track. Continue at race pace with cation. (Waving) A hazardous condition exists that affects the racing line. NO PASSING until past flag station
Black: A rider can be blacked flagged for a number of reasons ranging from an oil leak to unsafe riding. If black flagged, proceed to pit out area and receive intrstuctions (Unless the corner worker indicates a leak of some sort and motions you off of the track immediately.)
